02 / ERP modernization

Dynamics GP support & migration.

Plan the next chapter for your Dynamics GP environment. ArcticTech helps assess the current system, address connected workflow needs and map a considered path to Business Central.

What we plan around
  1. Current state

    GP, add-ons and dependencies

  2. Future fit

    Business Central requirements

  3. Migration

    Data, reports and connections

  4. Transition

    Validation and cutover planning

The starting point

Make the migration decision with context

Moving from GP is a business change as well as a data migration. The way you manage finance, inventory, approvals and reporting needs to be understood before the future system is designed.

Start by documenting what works today, what is difficult to maintain and what the business needs next. ArcticTech brings GP, Microsoft business applications, custom software and reporting into the same discussion, so existing dependencies stay visible.

How we help

The work around the platform.

GP environment review

Inventory companies, versions, add-ons, customizations, reports and integrations. Separate immediate workflow issues from requirements for the next ERP.

Migration readiness

Review the fit with Business Central and decide how to handle master records, balances, transaction history and data quality. Identify items that need redesign or a separate archive.

Reports, add-ons & connections

Map each dependency to a future approach. Existing GP reports and extensions should be assessed individually rather than assumed to transfer unchanged.

The approach

A migration path you can evaluate

  1. Understand GP

Review processes, data, reports and the systems that exchange information with GP.

  2. Map the future

Compare requirements with Business Central. Agree which processes to retain, simplify or redesign.

  3. Rehearse & reconcile

Test supported migration paths in a non-production environment and reconcile results with finance owners.

  4. Plan the transition

Define cutover activities, user preparation, contingency arrangements and post-migration responsibilities.

Plan with the right information.

What shapes scope & cost

The number of companies, GP version, add-ons, history requirements, data cleanup and integration/report replacements determine migration effort. Available testing time and finance deadlines also shape the plan.

Bring to the first conversation

  • GP version, companies and key add-ons
  • Critical reports and connected applications
  • History requirements and finance-calendar constraints

Before you begin

Questions about Dynamics GP & migration.

Do we have to replace GP immediately?

The right timing depends on your environment, support requirements, business priorities and readiness. Review Microsoft’s current lifecycle guidance alongside your dependencies, then build a transition plan. An assessment can clarify the options before committing to a migration.

Will every GP customization and report move automatically?

No. Microsoft’s migration tooling supports defined data scenarios; it does not turn every GP add-on, report or customization into a Business Central equivalent. Inventory these dependencies and agree whether each should be replaced, rebuilt, integrated or retired.

How do we protect financial accuracy during the move?

Agree reconciliation criteria before migration, then validate balances and representative transactions with finance users during rehearsals. Resolve exceptions before cutover. Decide who signs off the data and how retained GP history will be accessed after the transition.
